Mrs. B.W. Kahari Engages with the 18th Cohort of the Master’s in Intellectual Property Programme at Africa University
Mrs. B.W. Kahari participated in the opening of the 18th Cohort of the Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property (MIP) Programme at Africa University for the 2025–2026 academic year. The cohort comprises 29 students representing 15 African countries, namely Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe.
The event was a remarkable success, distinguished by its high level of engagement and intellectual exchange. It was attended by delegates from the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO), led by its Director General, Mr. Bemanya Twebaze, as well as representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Mrs. Kahari played an active role in both the Steering Committee Meeting and the Official Opening Ceremony, the latter co-chaired by Mr. Bemanya Twebaze and the Vice-Chancellor of Africa University, Reverend Professor Peter Mageto. In addition to her administrative and institutional contributions, Mrs. Kahari also served as a lecturer, delivering a comprehensive course on Trademarks Law to the 18th Cohort — a session that was met with enthusiasm and appreciation from the participants.
Notably, this year’s MIP Programme has seen several structural and academic advancements, including its transfer under the Faculty of Law and the appointment of Dr. Tendai Nhenga as the new Dean. Under the capable leadership of the current Programme Coordinator, Mr. Chris Munguma, who succeeded Mr. George Mandewo, the programme continues to strengthen its academic excellence and regional impact.
The Ubuntu Centre once again demonstrated its renowned hospitality, providing world-class facilities and a conducive environment for both local and international participants.

I had the honor of being a panelist at the recent GALA Annual Meeting, where we delved into the fascinating intersection of Artificial Intelligence and the Law. It was an incredible opportunity to share insights and engage in thought-provoking discussions with legal experts from around the world.

During the meeting, we explored various aspects of AI regulation, including new laws, consumer protection, intellectual property, privacy, and best practices with a keen emphasis on how it applies to Advertising. We discussed the efforts of different countries, such as the United States, EU, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, and Zimbabwe, in shaping AI legislation and regulations. It was inspiring to witness the global collaboration and exchange of ideas among legal professionals.

As a panelist, I had the chance to contribute to the conversation by sharing my expertise and perspectives on the legal implications of AI. We discussed the challenges of regulating AI, the role of government agencies, and the need for transparency and accountability in AI systems. The diversity of viewpoints and experiences among the panelists made for enriching discussions and valuable insights.

I'm grateful to GALA for organizing such an informative and engaging event. It was an incredible learning experience, and I look forward to continuing the dialogue on the legal aspects of AI and its impact on various industries.
