ZIEA Warns Public Against Viewing Fees

The Zambia Institute of Estate Agents (ZIEA) has warned members of the public against paying viewing fees to real estate agents, stating that such charges are unlawful.

Speaking to ZNBC News in an interview, ZIEA Deputy Registrar Peter Mulaisho said no agent is permitted to request a viewing fee from a client.

Mr. Mulaisho urged the public to verify the credentials of any real estate agent before engaging in transactions and to report any unregistered agents.

He stated that procedures and qualifications for registration include at least a Grade 12 certificate, police clearance, and fingerprint records.

He added that all legitimate agents carry a ZIEA number, a license, and are listed annually in gazetted publications, hence the need for the public to demand identification before entrusting agents with money.

Mr. Mulaisho further said that operating as an estate agent without a valid ZIEA license is a criminal offense.
