Wellness & Wellbeing Morning ~Celebrating Women

Last Friday we had the pleasure of hosting our Wellness & Wellbeing Morning. As we brought Women’s Month to a close, we were reminded that empowering women is not only about celebrating their achievements, but also about creating spaces where women can pause, recharge, reflect and invest in themselves.

It was a truly inspiring morning filled with meaningful conversations, valuable insights, genuine connection and, most importantly, a reminder of the importance of prioritising our own wellbeing.

We were privileged to be joined by a Life Coach and Wellness Counsellor, Dora Pelizzari who facilitated an engaging discussion around stress and the fascinating way our nervous system can influence how we think, feel & respond.

A heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful clients and guests who joined us and contributed to such a positive, uplifting and empowering experience. Your openness, participation and energy made the morning truly special.

At Lomas-Walker Attorneys, we believe that when women support and empower one another, we create stronger workplaces, stronger businesses and stronger communities.

Thank you for being part of our morning and for helping us create a space where women could simply take a moment for themselves.

Ending July with admiration and inspiration!

Our Vacation Work Programme for 3rd and 4th year LLB students has provided aspiring legal professionals with a firsthand glimpse into the realities of legal practice. Throughout the week, students attended court proceedings, assisted with legal drafting, shadowed consultations, observed attorneys, candidate attorneys, and paralegals in action, and gained valuable insight into the practical workings of a busy law firm.

The programme concluded with a Moot Argument Session on the attachment of immovable property, where students confidently presented legal arguments, challenged one another's perspectives, and demonstrated impressive analytical thinking and advocacy skills.

The enthusiasm, engagement, and quality of the discussions were exceptional. It is encouraging to see such passionate future legal practitioners embracing every opportunity to learn, grow, and develop their practical legal skills.

At Lomas-Walker Attorneys, we remain committed to investing in the next generation of legal professionals by bridging the gap between legal theory and practice.

We thank each student for their enthusiasm and wish them every success in their legal careers.

There are few moments in litigation that remind us why perseverance matters. This week, our team at Lomas-Walker Attorneys obtained judgment in two defended matters on behalf of our clients; one in the Pinetown Magistrates' Court involving the recovery of sectional title levy arrears and the other in the Randburg Magistrates' Court involving commercial debt recovery claim.

What makes these judgments particularly significant is that both matters were defended and took approximately seven and nine years respectively to reach finality.

Anyone practising litigation understands the commercial realities of protracted legal proceedings. Extended litigation is seldom the ideal outcome for any client, and throughout the process there are often procedural challenges, delays, and numerous disputed issues that must be addressed with patience and persistence.

Moreover, as litigators, we have a duty to advise our clients not only on the legal merits of a claim, but also on its commercial viability.

There are occasions where the costs of prolonged defended litigation may outweigh the amount in dispute.

Yet there are also matters where allowing unfounded defences or delaying tactics to prevail would undermine the very principles upon which our legal system is founded.

Courts exist to determine disputes fairly, and when justice is ultimately delivered after years of litigation, it reinforces confidence in the rule of law.

While litigation can be demanding, these judgments serve as a reminder that the legal process, although sometimes slow, exists to ensure that every party is afforded a fair opportunity to present its case.

For our clients, these outcomes represent more than successful recoveries. They represent resilience, accountability, and the value of remaining steadfast in pursuing a just outcome.

At Lomas-Walker Attorneys, we remain committed to providing practical, strategic and determined representation while always seeking the most commercially sensible solution for our clients.

Justice delayed should never mean justice denied. Justice was not only done, it was seen to be done.

This morning, our Conveyancer, Kim'osha had the opportunity to attend a Conveyancers Breakfast hosted by the eThekwini Municipality, where key stakeholders engaged on rates clearance processes and initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and ensuring smoother property transfers.

As a conveyancing firm, understanding these developments is essential to helping our clients navigate property transactions as smoothly as possible. Improved processes and collaboration between the Municipality and Conveyancers ultimately contribute to more efficient transfers and better service delivery for property owners, purchasers and sellers.

One of those mornings when our legal team was spread across various courts in and around Durban. ⚖️

Yashil, our Candidate Attorney, attended Chatsworth Court. Cayley, our other Candidate Attorney attended Durban Court while Sivannah our Director was in Pinetown Court, all handling court attendances this morning while the office continued running behind the scenes.

Some days in practice are quieter than others, and some mornings are a reminder of just how much happens before most people have had their second cup of coffee. We are incredibly proud of the LWA team for always showing up, putting in the work and getting the job done.
