βBut they were only signing as a witnessβ¦β βοΈ
Did you know that who witnesses your Will can affect who inherits from it?
The law requires a Will to comply with specific formalities when it is signed, including that the testatorβs signature must generally be made in the presence of two competent witnesses.
BUT WAIT! β οΈ
A person who signs the Will as a witness may be disqualified from receiving a benefit under that Will. The Wills Act does provide certain exceptions, but relying on those exceptions can create unnecessary complications when the estate is eventually administered. βοΈ
This is why ensuring that a Will is valid involves so much more than simply putting your wishes on paper.
The right Will, signed the right way, can save your loved ones from unnecessary problems later. π
Choose your witnesses carefully.
Sign your Will properly.
Protect your wishes. βοΈ
