Introducing Nicholas Fairbairn:

We are excited to have another skilled representative from Werksmans joining our panel of judges this evening.
He graduated with a BCom(law) and LLB from Stellenbosch University and is now a 2nd year candidate attorney at Werksmans.

Introducing Lerato Matebesi:

We are happy to announce that we have a highly knowledgeable representative from Werksmans joining the panel of judges tonight.
She graduated with an LLB from the University of Western Cape and is now a 2nd year candidate attorney at Werksmans.

Introducing Judge F. Brand:

Judge Brand has graciously agreed to be a judge on the Roman Moot Final bench. He graduated with a BA LLB from Stellenbosch University where after he stayed on as a lecturer. During this period he did post-graduate research at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands and then received an LLM degree from Stellenbosch.

In September 1992 he was appointed as a judge of the High Court in Cape Town. In 2002 he was permanently appointed as a Judge of Appeal at the Supreme Court of Appeal.

He has contributed to several publications including work in the South African Law Journal and in LAWSA, where he took responsibility for the titles Defamation and Enrichment in the current edition. Judge Brand is also interested in judicial education. For that purpose he has attended various courses and has conducted many seminars for judges in South Africa and in other African countries.

We are honoured to be welcoming him onto our judging panel this coming Friday. It will be a very enriching and insightful experience.

Introducing Prof JE du Plessis:

One of our esteemed Roman Law Moot Final judges is the distinguished Prof du Plessis. He has received several awards for his work including the National Research Foundation’s President’s award and the Toon van den Heever-medal to name a few.
His field of interests include the law of contract, the law of unjustified enrichment and comparative law.
He is also admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

The night is bound to be filled with knowledge and charisma. You don’t want to miss out!

Dear Law Students

The SU Moot Society cordially invites you to apply to become an executive member for the 2020 academic year. Five students will be appointed to the 2020 committee and will be joined by our ex officio member, Carla Bester.

To apply, kindly email your CV, a short motivation of why you want to join the executive committee and the position you hope to fill, accompanied by your full academic transcript.

The positions available are:
Chairperson
Vice chairperson
Secretary
Media & Marketing
Events coordinator

Applications are officially open and close on Wednesday, 28 August 2019 at 23:59. Interviews will be held on 3 and 4 September. Every applicant will be granted the opportunity of an interview. The Society will contact you personally in this regard.

🎈Good news!!🎈 If you would like to be considered for the African Human Rights Moot Court you can do so by entering into the CDH Moot Court.
The judges will be made aware that you would like to be considered for the African Moot and will judge you accordingly. This will be used as a trial.
Deadline for the CDH moot has been extended for this reason until today 23:59pm.
12 Aug all heads of arguments submissions to be made for CDH Moot Court.
16 Aug will be the release of the Moot program.
17 Aug all internal rounds.

The SU Moot Society in collaboration with Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr is presenting a Moot and litigation training session at 17h30 tomorrow (the 30th July)!

✨Brigitta Mangale, a Senior Associate from CDH, will be presenting the session.
