The idea that financial circumstances should determine access to education is one that Feenix has been challenging since 2017.

Feenix is a crowdfunding platform dedicated to supporting South African tertiary students, connecting students who need funding with donors who want to make a real, traceable difference. Founded by a young and passionate team, Feenix understands that the cost of higher education carries a weight far beyond tuition fees: it carries the weight of potential deferred, of careers delayed, of talent lost to a system that should have made room for it.

At MacRobert Attorneys, we believe that the next generation of professionals across every field, deserves a fair chance to finish what they started.

We are proud to support Feenix and the students whose futures they are helping to fund.

Signing for a property that has not been built yet takes a leap of faith. The legal protection you put in place before you sign determines how safe that leap actually is.

Off-plan purchases come with risks that most buyers only discover after they have committed. Developers can run into financial difficulty or insolvency before a key is ever handed over. Completion dates shift. Specifications change. And if your agreement does not adequately protect your interests, your options when things go wrong may be far more limited than you assumed.

MacRobert's Property Law team assists buyers and developers with off-plan transactions from the outset because the best time to protect your position is before you sign, not after something goes wrong.

Insurance policies are detailed documents, and when a dispute arises, the interpretation of that policy becomes everything.

Whether a claim has been repudiated, a policy term is in dispute, or litigation is the only remaining path forward, understanding exactly where you stand and what your options are is what determines the outcome.

Insurance law is a specialist area. The right advice, applied early, can be the difference between a resolved matter and a prolonged one.

Behind 130 years of legal practice, there are four words that have shaped every client relationship, every matter, and every team we have ever built.

Teamwork. Respect. Integrity. Passion.

These are the values that determine how we show up for our clients. They are the reason a client who came to us in a moment of crisis leaves with a sense of clarity.

They are the reason our attorneys stay, our candidate attorneys grow, and our firm has endured for over a century.

In 1808, Mrs Möller looked at the children in her community with nowhere to go, and built them a home. Upon her passing, she donated the bulk of her estate to the orphanage she had founded.

More than 200 years later, the South African Children's Home still stands, caring for 44 boys and girls in a safe and loving environment.

At MacRobert Attorneys, we are proud to support the South African Children's Home and the enduring work it does for South Africa's most vulnerable children. Some legacies are worth protecting.

Most people assume that in order to resolve a legal dispute, going to court is the only way forward. In most cases, it does not have to be.

Mediation allows both parties to settle on their own terms, outside of a contentious courtroom, and in far less time than litigation. Many people do not realise that once a mediation settlement agreement is signed, it is legally binding and enforceable, and it carries the same weight as any other contract.

It is a far less arduous process, and in the right circumstances, it is often the smarter approach.

If you are facing a dispute, understanding all your options before committing to the most costly one will always be worth the conversation.

Two of the most misunderstood words in business law and the difference between them matters more than most people realise.

Copyright protects original creative works: writing, photography, music, and artwork. It arises automatically in South Africa the moment the work is created, with no registration required. A trade mark protects the identifiers that distinguish your brand - your name, logo, or tagline, but only once it has been formally registered.

Here is where it gets interesting: a logo can attract both forms of protection simultaneously, but they do different jobs.
Copyright protects the artwork itself. A trade mark protects the brand identity it represents.

Knowing which protection you need and whether you have it, is exactly what good IP advice is for.
