Dear all, I have given this a great deal of thought, so please read the entire post before commenting. Mediation Corner was a partnership between Annelie and I. Without Annelie, there is no partnership, she is the soul that drives us. Mediation Corner belongs to Annelie and I, I have no interest in a new partner or to continue with others. There could be no possible replacement. I have discussed this matter with Johan and he understands this point of view. We also have no outstanding cases that we would be neglecting/ letting go/ referring out. This by ABSOULTELY no means, means that I am giving up on our work, her legacy or anything else... I fully intend to continue all our endeavours in combatting bullying in South Africa and making South Africa a better place for all our children. I hope that you understand. Victim Offender Mediation/Dialogue: What is it about? It gives the victims of crime an opportunity to address their perpetrators. They can then tell then how the crime affected them, their lives after the crime, made them feel etc. This also gives the victim the opportunity to ask the offender questions. The entire aim of this is to start a conversation to bring healing and ultimately to make the offender understand the consequences of his crime. Recidivism (the offender not committing similar crime or crime again) would be great, but that is not the ultimate goal - the goal is to assist the victim in making a clean break. It also assists the offender in realizing accountability for his or her actions and realizing the impact of his or her actions on not only the victims but his/her family as well as the broader community.

Today I was part of something utterly wondrous. As a member of the Victim/Offender Mediation Team from Khulisa in the VOM/D Pilot Project with the Department of Correctional Services, we did a mediation at the Boksburg Prison today with a family ripped apart by crime. This family has deep wounds. I witnessed the power of Restorative Justice first hand. Communication, dialogue and the willingness to move forward helped this family so far that they want to take hands and look to the future. Amazing. The crime committed was not a minor offence, it was a serious offence, within the family - truth can set you free
