🚨 RAMAPHOSA MAKES MAJOR JUDICIAL SHAKE-UP — NEW JUDGES APPOINTED ACROSS SA COURTS
President has officially appointed several new judges across South Africa’s court system, following recommendations from the Judicial Service Commission, in a move aimed at strengthening judicial capacity and filling key vacancies.
The appointments, announced on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, will see new judges taking office between May and August 2026 across the Supreme Court of Appeal, Gauteng High Court, Eastern Cape, and Western Cape divisions.
KEY APPOINTMENTS INCLUDE:
🔹 Supreme Court of Appeal
• Thandi Victoria Norman – effective 15 May 2026
• Bashier Vally – effective 01 June 2026
• Leonie Windell – effective 01 June 2026
🔹 Gauteng Division (High Court)
• Aubrey Phage Ledwaba – appointed Judge President (effective 15 May 2026)
🔹 Eastern Cape Division
• Nolubabalo Cengani-Mbakaza – Mthatha (01 July 2026)
• Sally Ann Collett – Makhanda (01 July 2026)
• Professor Nomthandazo Patience Ntlama-Makhanya – Makhanda (01 August 2026)
🔹 Western Cape Division
• Rodges Deon Barendse – 01 June 2026
• Diane Margaret Davis SC – 01 July 2026
• Ncumisa Thoko Mayosi – 01 June 2026
• Pinda Njokweni – 01 June 2026
• Phillipa Susan Van Zyl – 01 June 2026
The Presidency says the appointments are aimed at ensuring courts operate efficiently and are fully staffed to handle the country’s growing legal workload.
