Thank you everyone for heeding the call to discuss ways of assisting those facing the unpleasant experience of being unemployed. Wherever and whatever is happening in your life, there is still hope that the situation may turnaround. Our target group is youth; graduates, high school leavers, youth in business, youth seeking job opportunities, those who have long lost hope of ever getting employed, those facing retrenchments or have already been retrenched, those who turned to substance abuse to numb the pain of unemployment etc. We have opened a whatsapp group to discuss how all of us can assist/support unemployed youth to deal with this challenge. Click on the sign up button to join the group. Let us remember that we are all drivers of this discussion so feel free to make your input. All inputs are important. As individuals, the problem may be too much but as a collective, surely we will overcome. Once all the inputs are made, we will collate them into a single document. Thank you once more for allowing us into your space. This is a highly emotive issue that needs involvement of all South Africans. We shall henceforth chat on whatsapp once a minimum number of 20-25 participants join the group.

As a law firm, we realize and acknowledge the challenge of unemployment which young people of South Africa are faced with. This problem will not end soon, more so in the height of COVID-19. Therefore, it needs a different approach to tackle. Let us come up with solutions that will benefit all young people. As a young person, whether you are a graduate or not, do you think it will help to form a platform where unemployed young people can discuss and maybe advise others on ways of sustaining themselves? We can discuss anything from business ideas, challenges to grow businesses [for those already in businesses], access to finance for businesses, how to develop a cv that can attract a prospective employer and a lot more.
Our role will be to facilitate the discussion and develop a framework [with the assistance of participants] for each topic of discussion. More will be determined by the direction of the discussions.
If you are willing to be part of this discussion, please inbox me. We will establish a separate platform where this discussion will take place and your views invited. Formation of this platform will depend on the number of responses received.
