We are delighted to welcome, as an Associate, Shikara Balkishun to our team.

Shikara graduated from the University of Pretoria obtaining a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) cm laude. She was also the recipient of the VZLR Incorporated Prize for the best student in Tax Practice, 2021.

Shikara commenced her articles at FHSN in January 2022 concluding with her admission in January 2024. She has a passion for Litigation as well as a keen interest in Commercial Law, Tax Law and Conveyancing Practice.

The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, together with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (“CIPC”) have published the Companies Amendment Regulations under Government Gazette Notice 48648 on the 24th of May 2023 and all South African Companies and entities are required to submit beneficial ownership information to CIPC with effect from the aforesaid date.

Failure to submit beneficial ownership information to CIPC timeously will mean that a company is non-compliant.

Our Ms Millie Shantall-Lurie is a specialist in company law and can assist you with the completion and filing of all beneficial ownership information and take note of the fact that the following types of entities are required to file beneficial ownership information with CIPC:

Private companies - (Pty) Ltd;
Close Corporations – CC;
Non-Profit companies – NPC;
State-owned companies – SOC;
Personal liabilities companies – PLC; and
Public companies – Ltd.

It has been ruled in the Pretoria High Court that Identity Documents may not be blocked without notice and timely investigation and appeal processes. The previous stance by the Department of Home Affairs stated that the blocking was used as a preventative measure to mitigate abuse by foreign nationals. The High Court ruled that Identity Documents could be blocked but only after a fair administrative procedure. See the below article for further information on the topic.

A year on from their sudden and unexpected exit from their longtime label Ambitiouz Entertainment, Blaq Diamond have quietly fought and won a case against their former label.

Ambitiouz had dragged the hip hop duo, which comprises of the rappers Ndumiso Siyabulela Mdlethse and Siphelele Mbongi Dunywa, to court in an apparent attempt to remove and/or delete the duo’s YouTube account.

The group’s lawyer said on Twitter that this was an interim interdict pending Part B at trial where they will aim to conquer ‘exploitative contracts in the music industry’.
