The Unisa Law Clinic’s Street Law Programme continues to bring legal education directly into communities across South Africa, empowering individuals with practical knowledge of their rights, responsibilities and the law. ⚖️

The recent outreach engagement focused on the important legal topics of Divorce and Maintenance, providing nurses with valuable legal education on the divorce process, the rights and responsibilities of spouses, and the legal implications arising from the dissolution of a marriage.

The engagement further addressed maintenance obligations, including the rights of children and spouses to financial support, the legal processes involved in claiming maintenance, and the importance of ensuring that maintenance responsibilities are fulfilled in accordance with South African law.

Beyond promoting legal awareness, the outreach provided our LLB students with an opportunity to apply their legal knowledge in a practical community setting, strengthen their legal communication skills and contribute meaningfully to access to justice.

STREET LAW PROGRAMME | COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACROSS SOUTH AFRICA ⚖️📚

The Unisa Law Clinic’s Street Law Programme continues to extend legal education beyond the classroom, reaching communities across South Africa and empowering individuals with knowledge of their constitutional rights, legal protections and available avenues for assistance.

Through a series of outreach initiatives, our LLB students have engaged with communities on important legal and social issues, including Domestic Violence, Bail Applications, School Bullying, Divorce, Maintenance and Deceased Estates.

📍Regional Outreach Initiatives

Our students in Mbombela, Vaal, Rustenburg, Giyani and Durban also participated in community outreach programmes, delivering presentations on Bail Applications, School Bullying, Divorce and Maintenance.

These initiatives provide our LLB students with invaluable opportunities to apply their legal knowledge in practical settings, develop essential professional skills and contribute meaningfully to communities.

We extend our appreciation to the campus staff, project facilitators and participating institutions whose continued support makes these engagements possible.
