About the founder:

Ludwig du Toit

Was a member of the South African Police Service from 1988 to 2001.

In 1990 became a member of the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory, and in 1991 became a member of the Questioned Document Unit of the Forensic Science Laboratory.

Resigned from the South African Police Service, with the rank of CAPTAIN, (Senior Forensic Analyst) at the end of September 2001, with the aim to practice as a private specialist.

He received in-service training and completed the internal 3-year training course at the unit successfully and qualified as a Handwriting expert/Document examiner.

He was trained in the following aspects of document examination:

The individualization of handwriting
The individualization of signatures(determination of authenticity or forgery)
The identification of printed matter which include documentation produced by computer printers, fax machines, printing presses and photocopiers
Stamped impressions
The identification of forgeries
Alterations to documents (erasures and additions)
The deciphering of obscured writing
The identification and examination of counterfeit RSA - and US banknotes

He has to date examined more than 7000 questioned document cases.

He also rendered expert evidence in Magisterial, Regional and High Courts in South Africa, Namibia and Lesotho. Evidence were also rendered in various disciplinary and arbitration hearings.

Document examination services were also rendered to clients in Botswana and Swaziland.

He also undertook studies at the University of South Africa in the field of “Forensic Criminology, Questioned Documents”.

He gives lectures on a regular basis to corporate investigators, risk managers, attorneys and any other persons that deal with issues on fraud and corruption.

He maintains ongoing research and self-education, by continuously updating on new research released by recognized local and international Handwriting experts/Document examiners, as well as utilizing the internet.

He is one of the founder members of the South African Association of Forensic Document Examiners.
