The reality is that our current laws do not yet offer adequate protection against deep fakes. While the harm is real, reputational damage, emotional distress, and the misuse of one's image without consent, the legal framework is still catching up.

As the video highlights, what we need is clearer legislation that criminalises the malicious creation and distribution of deep fakes, and provides victims with effective remedies. Until then, awareness and caution are our best defences.

Youth Day reminds us of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the young people who stood up for freedom and equality in 1976. Their legacy is our democracy, and our ongoing responsibility to invest in the next generation.

Today, we honour the past and commit to building a future where every young person can thrive.
Happy Youth Day to the young leaders of today and tomorrow.

High Court confirmation is the final and most critical step in any surrogacy journey. The Court must be satisfied that both the commissioning parents and the surrogate mother meet all legal requirements, and that the agreement adequately provides for the child's contact, care, upbringing, and welfare, including unforeseen circumstances such as death or divorce of the commissioning parents.

Above all, the child's best interests are paramount. At BBV, we guide clients through every requirement to ensure that your surrogacy agreement is not only legally sound but also a true foundation for a stable, loving home.

Becoming a commissioning parent through surrogacy is not simply a matter of finding a surrogate. The law requires that intended parents prove they are unable to give birth due to a permanent and irreversible condition, that they are suitable persons to accept parenthood, and that they fully understand the legal consequences of the agreement.

These requirements exist to protect the child and ensure that surrogacy is entered into responsibly. At BBV, we guide intended parents through every legal step of this journey with care and expertise.

South African law goes further than simply prohibiting commercial surrogacy, it also makes it unlawful to advertise or broker surrogacy arrangements for compensation. No person may, for any form of payment, make known that someone is or might be willing to enter into a surrogate motherhood agreement.

This provision exists to protect all parties involved and to preserve the altruistic nature of surrogacy in our country. If you are considering surrogacy, working within these legal boundaries is essential. At BBV, we guide intended parents and surrogates through the process with the care and compliance the law demands.
