⛔ RIGHT OF POLITICAL PARTIES / COMMUNITY LEADERS TO REPRESENT WORKERS

As the election draws closer, there has been an increase in requests from political party representatives or community leaders to discuss grievances with management on behalf of employees or former employees.

Some demand that documentation be sent to them and threaten to involve the CCMA.

NO political party or community organisation has the right to insist on meeting with management on behalf of an employee or former employee.

Political parties and community leaders do not have the right to:
- demand a meeting with you; officially lodge grievances on behalf of employees,
- represent them at disciplinary hearings, or submit claims on their behalf;
- receive employees personal information.

Disclosing such information without legal grounds or clear written instruction from the worker concerned could constitute a violation of POPIA.
