Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist as it passes through the carpal tunnel. Workplace/ergonomic relevance:
For an ergonomics assessment, CTS can be associated with factors such as:
- Repetitive hand/wrist movements
- Forceful gripping
- Frequent use of vibrating hand tools
- Awkward wrist postures, particularly prolonged wrist flexion/extension
- High-frequency manual tasks with insufficient recovery time
- Combination of force, repetition and awkward posture.
