Tensions reached a breaking point during re-examination by evidence leader Adv Bongiwe Mkhize when Mr O’Sullivan told Committee Chairperson Molapi Soviet Lekganyane that he was leaving for the day.
“I have reached a point, Chairman, where I have to go,” Mr O’Sullivan said, explaining that he needed to make his way to the airport.
The Chairperson warned him that the committee had not formally released him from the proceedings. Mr O’Sullivan nevertheless gathered his documents and walked out of the chamber.
His departure drew strong reactions from MPs, with some calling for him to be held in contempt of Parliament.
Mr Lekganyane later said the committee had resolved to seek a legal opinion on what recourse was available and how the matter should be handled going forward.
