Meet the heart behind MNF. Alta du Toit, our Founder and Managing Director, is a Family Law Mediator, Parenting Coordinator and Life Coach who has spent her career restoring families and resolving conflict with compassion and integrity. Her vision built the foundation that Deep Roots now stands on, a place where broken families find their way back to each other.

MYTH: 'People relapse because they didn't try hard enough.' FACT: Addiction is a chronic, relapsing condition, much like diabetes or hypertension.

Relapse doesn't mean failure. It means the treatment plan needs adjusting, not that the person is weak.

At Deep Roots, we meet every setback with compassion, not judgement, because real recovery isn't linear.

What Is a Halfway House, Really?

'Halfway house' is a term many people misunderstand. It's not a punishment. It's not a lockup. It's a structured, supportive bridge between intensive treatment and independent life where people rebuild the skills, relationships and confidence they need to thrive.

At Deep Roots, that bridge includes clinical health monitoring, mental health and mindfulness support, life skills training, family restoration and community reintegration. Recovery isn't a moment. It's a journey and we walk it together.

Recovery doesn't happen in a straight line, and it doesn't happen alone.

The journey through Deep Roots moves through five stages: stabilisation, where someone is simply made safe; therapeutic intervention, where the real work of begins; wellness restoration; reintegration, preparing for independence; and aftercare, because the work doesn't end when someone walks out the door.

It's slower than people expect. It's also more possible than people expect.
