South Africa is a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law. While there are differing views on immigration and crime, it is important not to assume that immigrants as a whole are responsible for serious or violent crime. Criminal conduct should be dealt with on an individual basis, regardless of a person's nationality.
What we are deeply concerned about is the increasing trend of self-appointed "pop-up groups" that are not authorised by the South African Government entering workplaces and claiming to conduct "inspections". These actions have no legal authority and can intimidate both employers and workers.
The responsibility for inspections and law enforcement rests with the relevant government departments and authorised officials, who must act within the law and identify themselves accordingly.
We encourage all employers and employees to remain calm, respect the law, and report any unlawful intimidation, trespassing, or attempts to impersonate government officials to the South African Police Service. Upholding the rule of law protects everyone in our country.
