South African Society for Labour Law - saslaw The aim of SASLAW is to promote the advancement of labour law The South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) is a non-profit organisation.
(1)

The aim of the Society is to promote the advancement of labour law as a legal and academic discipline, and encourage collaboration between lawyers and other experts within the field of labour law. SASLAW has over 1300 members in South Africa. Membership is made up of judges, advocates, attorneys, candidate attorneys, HR and IR management, government officials, CCMA commissioners, and employers’ or

ganisations. SASLAW has chapters in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and the Free State. Seminars and workshops are arranged throughout the year on topical issues, which suit the wide range of members. Following the pilot SASLAW Pro Bono project at the Labour Court in Johannesburg, the Pro Bono programme has now been established as an indispensable cornerstone of the administration of justice at the four Labour Courts around the country. This fact is clearly demonstrated by the over 13 000 clients who have been assisted since the inception of the project in February 2011 to date.

SASLAW Western Cape Chapter
AGM & SEMINAR – 10 June 2026
17:00 – ENS Cape Town

Join the discussion with Advocate Craig Bosch on the topic relating to “Section 188A(11) of the Labour Relations Act: Inquiry by Arbitrator – Practical Options and Implications in Light of Recent Case Law”

Section 188A(11) of the Labour Relations Act provides a unique mechanism through which employees who allege that disciplinary action is linked to a protected disclosure may insist that conduct or capacity allegations be determined by an independent arbitrator rather than through an internal process.

In this presentation, Advocate Craig Bosch will examine the purpose and operation of section 188A(11), analyse the latest judicial developments, and consider the practical implications for employers, employees, legal practitioners, and arbitrators. The session will provide valuable guidance on navigating the strategic and procedural challenges linked to this section.

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing on 17 May 2026 of one of SASLAW KwaZulu-Natal’s founding members, Pungajaville Pillay.

Pungajaville was a devoted member of SASLAW in KZN, always present to support our events and particularly committed to the work of our Pro Bono Office at the Durban Labour Court. Her unwavering dedication and contribution to the labour law fraternity are recognised and admired.

She will be sorely missed by colleagues, friends, and the wider SASLAW community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
