SARS Mid-Year Reconciliation: A Critical Payroll Compliance Check

The SARS Mid-Year Submission is more than a compliance deadline. It's an opportunity to ensure your payroll data, employee tax certificates, and PAYE, UIF, and SDL declarations are accurate before year-end. Employers are required to reconcile the period 1 March to 31 August 2026 and submit their EMP501 during the interim filing season.

Recent SARS updates to note:
✅ Introduction of a new ITREG source code aimed at reducing duplicate Income Tax registrations.
✅ Changes to PAYE reporting requirements and source code validations, requiring payroll systems to be aligned with the latest SARS BRS specifications.
✅ Legislative reporting updates relating to long service awards and compensation in respect of death during employment following the 2026 Budget changes.
✅ Increased focus on employee data quality and tax registration accuracy, making proactive payroll audits more important than ever.

Employers who reconcile early, validate employee data, and review their source codes now will avoid unnecessary corrections, delays, and compliance risks later.
