Belinda Mapongwana has over 14 years experience in both Legal and Compliance. She commenced her career in the Commercial Law Department at Bowman Gilfillan Inc. She then joined the Corporate Commercial Department of Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs. She has worked in large local and international firms including Simpson Thacher and Morgan Stanley in New York. At Simpson Thacher she worked in the M&A and
Private Equity departments and at Morgan Stanley she worked in the Legal & Compliance team focusing on Structured Products. She joined Absa Capital as a Private Side Advisory Compliance Officer supporting the Private Equity and Corporate & Investment Banking divisions. She spent some time at Barclays in London where she was exposed to Investment Banking, Capital Markets and Equity Syndication. Belinda also spent time in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, where she was exposed to complex issues of International Law. Belinda holds a Bachelor of Social Science and LLB from UCT as well as a Masters in International Business Law from Vrije Universiteit, in Amsterdam where she graduated with Honourable Mention. She also holds a Certificate in Compliance Management from UCT.
