Leadership Capacitation for Local Structures

Distinguished guests, community leaders, stakeholders, ladies and gentlemen,

I stand before you today to raise a concern that continues to affect many of our local structures and community organisations. While these structures were established to serve communities and drive development, many are experiencing internal collapse, conflict, and ineffective functioning.

One of the major contributing factors is the lack of leadership capacitation. Many leaders take up responsibilities with passion and commitment, but without adequate training and development in leadership skills, governance, conflict resolution, organisational management, and strategic planning.

As a result, we often witness poor decision-making, internal disputes, lack of accountability, and delays in service delivery. This weakens public confidence and limits the impact these structures can have within our communities.

Therefore, I would like to propose the introduction and strengthening of leadership development programmes for local leaders. These programmes should focus on leadership skills, mediation, communication, governance, financial management, and community development.

Capacitated leaders create stronger institutions. Strong institutions create empowered communities. By investing in leadership development today, we are investing in sustainable community growth and effective local governance for tomorrow.

Let us prioritise empowering our leaders so that they can effectively lead, serve, and transform our communities.

I thank you.

COMMUNITY INPUT CALL: WARD 15 & WARD 16 IDP PREPARATION

Siyazidla Ngekaya Lethu Advice Office calls upon all community members of Ward 15 and Ward 16 to actively submit their ideas, concerns, and development proposals as part of the ongoing Integrated Development Plan (IDP) engagement with Emalahleni Local Municipality.

Following our formal communication with the municipality advocating for inclusive public participation, it is important that our community speaks with a unified and well-structured voice.

Community members are therefore encouraged to raise their issues and suggestions here. All inputs will be carefully collected, reviewed, and clustered into key priority areas to ensure clarity, alignment, and strong representation when engaging with municipal officials.

Why this matters:

- To consolidate community concerns into clear development priorities
- To avoid fragmented or duplicated submissions
- To strengthen our collective position during municipal engagements
- To ensure no critical issue is overlooked

Let us work together to present a coherent, organized, and impactful submission that reflects the true needs of Ward 15 and Ward 16.

Your voice matters β€” but our unity gives it strength.

When those in power suddenly sound reasonable, it’s often because reality has caught up with them. The ruling party failed us, and no late shift in tone can undo years of neglect. Are we finally ready to demand more than speeches?
