I often sit down and think about how far life has brought me.
From being a young boy in Khayelitsha and later growing up in Zwelihle, Hermanus, with nothing but dreams, determination, and hope to becoming an admitted attorney and the founder of Sofute & Associates Attorneys.
Back in high school at Qhayiya Secondary School, I already knew that I wanted more for my life, my family, and my community. I was never the smartest person in the room, but I was willing to work hard, stay disciplined, and believe in myself even when circumstances said otherwise.
As a young student, I became involved in leadership structures and community initiatives because I always believed that leadership is about service. I served in student leadership, participated in community work, and learned very early that your background should never determine your future.
In 2017, I started my LLB degree at the University of the Western Cape. Those years tested me in every possible way. There were sleepless nights, financial pressures, moments of uncertainty, and days where I questioned whether I would make it. But through faith, prayer, resilience, and the support of people who believed in me, I pushed through and graduated in 2020.
Thereafter, I began my legal journey as a candidate attorney, learning the practical side of the law, understanding people’s pain, and witnessing how legal representation can completely change someone’s life. I worked long hours, handled difficult matters, and dedicated myself to becoming not just a lawyer, but a lawyer who genuinely cares about people.
Over the years, I have assisted clients with family disputes, protection orders, deceased estates, criminal matters, civil litigation, property-related matters, contracts, and many other legal challenges that affect ordinary South Africans every single day.
One thing I learned very quickly is that many people are afraid of lawyers because legal services often feel inaccessible. That realization pushed me to dream differently. I wanted to build a law firm that people from ordinary communities could approach without fear; a firm built on professionalism, compassion, accessibility, and dignity.
So, despite the fear, despite the uncertainty, despite the risk…
I took a chance on myself.
I took a chance on starting my own law firm, Sofute & Associates.
What started as a dream built on courage, sacrifice, sleepless nights, prayer, and hard work has now become a growing legal practice helping people every day.
The journey has not been perfect. There were moments of doubt, financial struggles, pressure, criticism, and obstacles that could have easily broken me. But every challenge reminded me why I started.
I do this for the young boy who once had nothing but a dream.
I do this for every child from a township who thinks success is impossible.
I do this for my family.
I do this for my community.
I do this because I believe that the law should protect and uplift people.
And today, I am still dreaming bigger.
I took a chance on starting my own law firm, Sofute & Associates.
