📢 BREAKING: Equal Parental Leave for All Parents in South Africa

Today, the Constitutional Court delivered a landmark ruling: all parents — regardless of gender, circumstance, or biological relation — will now be entitled to equal parental leave. 

This is more than a legal victory — it’s a reaffirmation that parenting is a shared responsibility, and that our laws must evolve to affirm dignity, equity, and the modern family.

✅ Why this matters
• Moves us closer to gender equality in caregiving
• Supports families to choose how they share early child care
• Sends a clear message: structural norms should not dictate who can nurture
• Aligns labour law with constitutional rights

⚖️ What’s next

Implementation and legislative alignment will be key. This ruling sets the constitutional framework — now, employers, regulators, and policy makers must align practices to it.
