This case highlights how serious misconduct, abuse, neglect and lack of contribution within a marriage may influence forfeiture of patrimonial benefits and how the best interests of children remain central in matters involving parental rights and responsibilities.

These rulings are not made lightly but they reinforce the importance of protecting both fairness in divorce proceedings as well as the wellbeing of children.

Today, on International Day of Families, we honour and celebrate the many different forms a family can take.

Families are not defined only by tradition, but by love, safety, support and care.

For many, family journeys include change, healing, difficult decisions, co-parenting, blended families, single parenting, grandparents stepping in, or learning to rebuild after hardship.
