Your Calendar is LYING to you.
You’re Not Building, You’re just Busy.

Most people assume they are being productive and building themselves or their career when all they are doing is overwhelming themselves by being busy. The scary part is being busy feels exactly like progress, they just have different outcomes.

The calendar is full. The to-do list is getting shorter. The hours are long. Everything looks like hard work from the outside. But at the end of the day, nothing moved. No lead came in, no deal was closed and there was no real progress made. Just activity dressed up as achievement.

Here is the difference nobody talks about:
Busy people ask : "What do I need to do today?"
Builders ask : "What do I need to achieve and by when?"

Being busy often means scattering your energy doing ten tasks at once, jumping between ten open tabs, constantly in motion but not always moving forward. Building is different.

It requires focus, intention and most importantly discipline. Builders don’t try to do everything, they protect their energy and direct it towards what actually matters. Because progress isn’t about how much you do, it’s about what you choose to prioritize.
Think of it like a watering can with holes in it, you fill it up every morning; your energy, your focus, your time. A busy person carries it around all day, pouring a little here, a little there, running from one plant to the next. By the end of the day the can is empty but nothing got enough water to actually grow. A builder fills the same watering can and pours it all into one plant. Same water. Same effort. Completely different result.

Stop measuring your day by how much you did and start measuring it by how far you moved. Because at the end of your career nobody remembers how busy you were, they remember what you built.

I would love to hear from you, what is one thing you are going to do differently this week to move from busy to building?

"You got the job." That was the moment everything changed. I just didn't know it yet.

I was a shy, introverted girl from a middle-class home in Durban who wasn't entirely sure she was ready for the real world. My parents raised me well; they encouraged my brother and I to work hard, do things properly, and always give our best. They offered to support my studies but I didn't want to put that pressure on them. I wanted to be independent. So I searched for a job, came across an advert for an office assistant and applied.

My first day felt like sitting down as a preschooler trying to learn the alphabet from scratch. I sat at my desk thinking, do I even belong here? Those answers came from the people around me. The team I walked into made me feel like I truly belonged.
Their belief gave me a foundation. What I built on top of it was up to me.

I paid attention. I asked questions. I made mistakes and learnt from them. And somewhere along the way, the role I was building towards started building itself around me. The shyness didn't disappear but it stopped being in charge. Curiosity took over instead. And it has never stopped.

Today I am the Chief Legal Officer of MeshFund; a startup enablement platform that takes bold founders and turns them into investment-ready businesses.
I am proud of that title. I persevered, kept focus and made sacrifices. My parents are proud of the person I have become and so am I.

To my family, Ahmed, Kashti and Nakita, thank you for never letting me give up on myself.

To every woman who has sat in a room and wondered if she belonged there you do!

What is the one decision that changed everything for you?

"You got the job."

That was the moment everything changed. I just didn't know it yet.

I was a shy, introverted girl from a middle-class home in Durban who wasn't entirely sure she was ready for the real world. My parents raised me well; they encouraged my brother and I to work hard, do things properly, and always give our best. As caring parents, they would have done anything for us, including putting themselves under financial pressure to fund my studies. But I didn't want that for them. I wanted to be independent and find my own way. So after finishing school, I searched for a job, came across an advert for an office assistant and applied. Fast forward, I landed the job.

My first day felt like sitting down as a preschooler and trying to learn the alphabet from scratch. Everything was new and unfamiliar. I sat at my desk thinking, what should I do? What should I say? Do I even belong here? For a moment, I genuinely wasn't sure if I belonged there. But those answers came from the people around me. The team I walked into made me feel like I truly belonged. They created an environment where I could learn, grow and ask questions without fear.

Their belief gave me a foundation. What I built on top of it was up to me.

I paid attention and absorbed everything around me. I asked questions, made mistakes and learnt from them. I slowly found my footing and treated every single task, no matter how small, as a chance to understand how this company works, what it needs, and where I could add something real. And somewhere along the way, the role I was building towards started building itself around me. Over time, without even realizing it, I started enjoying what I was doing and started carving my own path. The shyness didn't disappear, but it stopped being in charge. There are some days I hesitate before hitting send on a LinkedIn message or speaking up in a room full of people, but the thought of missing out on a great opportunity scares me far more than the shyness ever could. That is when I knew curiosity had taken over instead, and it has never stopped.

Today, I am the Chief Legal Officer of MeshFund, a startup enablement platform that takes bold founders and turns them into investment-ready businesses. We sit at the intersection of ambition and structure, and we help founders build companies that last.

I am proud of my title. I persevered, I removed distractions, I kept focus, I made sacrifices, spent late nights and weekends building something I could be proud of. During this time, my parents also became proud of the person I have become.

To the people who helped and guided me when I was building my foundation, my family, my colleagues, Ahmed, Kashti and Nakita, thank you for the support and for never allowing me to give up on myself. You'll have seen my strengths and given me an opportunity to find myself, my purpose, my career. I will remain truly grateful to each one of you.

To every female out there who has sat in a room and wondered if she belonged there, you do!
My team and I are passionate about supporting startups and, more so, female founders.
