'n Vastetermyn dienskontrak het 'n spesifieke doel en moet gebruik word waar die aard van die pos of werk tydelik is en daar 'n regverdigbare rede vir die bepaalde termyn bestaan.

Dit mag geensins gebruik word om ‘n werknemer te “toets” alvorens die persoon permanent aangestel word nie.

Die verkeerde soort dienskontrak skep onnodige arbeidsrisiko vir ‘n werkgewer. Maak dus seker dat die soort kontrak by die werklike aard van die pos pas.

WHEN MISCONDUCT HAPPENS, DON'T LEAVE IT TOO LONG

An employee breaks a workplace rule. You know about it, but weeks pass before you take any action.

That delay can create problems.

Investigate and deal with disciplinary matters within a reasonable period. An excessive or unexplained delay can create uncertainty, weaken the employer's position and even raise questions about whether the process has been fair.

Address misconduct promptly, investigate properly, and keep records throughout the process.

COSATU has announced a nationwide protest action for tomorrow, 7 October 2026, commencing at 09:00 and concluding at 16:30.

🛡️This protest is in response to the alarming rise in retrenchments aimed at maximising profits, amidst weak economic growth and escalating living costs. 📈

🛡️ Key Points for Employers:
→The protest will take place nationally, in all major cities and towns across the country.
→Except for employees that render essential services, any other employees can take part in the strike.
→Remember that employees cannot be penalised for not attending work due to unsafe conditions.
→The protest action has been approved by NEDLAC and is therefore protected. Participation in the strike cannot be considered as misconduct.
→The principle of no-work-no-pay will apply to all employees who are absent due to participation in the protest action.
