Always on the lookout for great camping spots in the Western Cape? This one seriously impressed us ⛺️

We spent a summer break camping at -Robertson in Robertson, about two hours from Cape Town, and it ticked all the right boxes. Think spacious campsites, clean bathrooms with hot showers, electricity points, braai drums at every stand and the Breede River right on your doorstep for cooling off on hot days.

Throw in peaceful mornings, friendly neighbours who actually help when things go wrong, and plenty of space to relax, nap and unwind, and you’ve got a campsite that feels easy and enjoyable from start to finish.

I just returned from an incredible media educational trip with Dwarsrivier Tourism. I explored the charming "klein dorpies" of Johannesdal, Pniel, Kylemore, and Lanquedoc, and this valley left me absolutely captivated. I have so much to tell you about this community; its stories will make you want to pack your bags and extend your trip even before you book it!

𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘄: 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 ⛺️

In 2019, Courtney and I set off on a 13-day road trip and decided to camp at Augrabies Falls National Park. We thought, “What’s the worst that could happen?” 🤷🏽‍♀️

We arrived in mid-October to 40-degree weather, armed with a borrowed tent and zero clue how to pitch it. We fumbled for hours, tying one end to the car tire while midges swarmed our faces and sweat soaked through every layer.

Just when we thought we had survived the worst of it, baboons showed up while we were cooking dinner. We defended our site like warriors on each side, all while I laughed uncontrollably at how chaotic it was. We cooked so fast, I still can’t tell you what we ate.

Later that night, as we sat by the fire, I yelled at Courtney to shine his torch toward me, and there they were: two glowing red eyes charging straight at us. That was the moment I decided our camping dreams were officially over 😂

But the joke’s on us because we’ve become avid campers nearly three years later. We’ve built up our gear bit by bit, chased down hidden campsites, and now we can’t imagine travel without it.

I love telling this story, partly because it’s hilarious (yes, there’s a YouTube video!), but mostly because we swore we’d never be the “camping type.” And now? Just look at us 🤣

When I received an email inviting us to the studio last week to share our love for travel on a brand-new show, I thought it was a joke. I replied, “Cool, when should we come in?”, and they asked if we could be there today.

It was a real pinch-me moment. We’ve been travelling to small towns across South Africa since 2016, and this opportunity felt huge.

We explore in our free time, make no money from it, and do it purely out of love for the journey and the stories we get to share. So to have a TV show want to feature us, Courtney and I, two people from Hanover Park and Eerste River, means more than we can put into words.

The show will be announced next month, and we’ll share the air date as soon as we can. But today, we’re just feeling incredibly proud of how far we’ve come doing something we love 😍
