📢 Department of Home Affairs Clarifies ZEP Status

The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed:

✅ No change to policy regarding Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders
✅ Current ZEP permits remain valid until 29 May 2027
✅ ZEP holders do not qualify for permanent residence under current permit conditions

The Department is currently conducting a public consultation process on the future of both ZEP and LEP permits to ensure any final decision is fair, transparent, and legally compliant.

A full policy report with recommendations will be submitted to Cabinet by the end of the 2026/27 financial year.

Home Affairs urges the public to avoid spreading misinformation that may cause unnecessary concern.

Lessons running an immigration practice has taught me:

Clarity builds trust.

Immigration is technical.
It’s detailed.
And for many clients, it’s also emotional.

Over the years, I learned that the most important thing we can give clients is a clear game plan from day one.

At Immigrants Exclusive, that means:

🟣 Setting expectations in the first consultation
🟣 Communicating clearly and in writing to avoid misunderstandings
🟣 Sharing every document before submission so clients can review and contribute
🟣 Providing structured updates so clients always know where they stand

Another lesson we learned along the way:

Transparency matters.

Our pricing is published on our website so people can understand the costs before even booking a consultation.

No surprises.
No hidden processes.

Just clear guidance.

For us, that trust means everything.

If you’re navigating an immigration process and need clarity, we’re here to guide you.

The Government Gazette published in 2024 introduced a new Points System for the General Work Visa.

Here’s what you need to know:

To qualify, you need to score 100 points.

This visa is valid for 5 years, but it is linked to a specific employer.
Keep in mind, if you change employers, you will need to start the process again and submit a new General Work Visa application.

You may be able to apply from within South Africa if:
🟣 You completed your studies in South Africa and your study visa is still valid.
🟣 Your spouse is in South Africa on a Work Visa and you hold an Accompanying Spouse Visa.

Also remember:
🟣 If your qualifications were obtained outside South Africa, they must be evaluated by SAQA.

After holding a General Work Visa for 5 years, and if your job offer is permanent, you may qualify to apply for Permanent Residence.

If you are extending your visa, make sure you apply at least 60 days before it expires at the relevant VFS office. The requirements are the same as your first application, with one extra document, a work reference letter from your employer.

As always, every case is unique and applications remain subject to DHA discretion.

If you’re unsure where you stand, chat to our team for guidance and clarity.

Dreaming of retiring in South Africa? Here's what you need to know.

South Africa's Retired Person Visa has two pathways, and both come with some great benefits for you and your family.

Option 1: Irrevocable Pension Fund
🟣 You'll need a guaranteed pension of at least R37 000/month
🟣 Add R3 500/month if your spouse is joining you

Option 2: Net Worth
No pension? No problem. You can show R37 000/month from a combination of assets or rental income from anywhere in the world

An accountant's letter is recommended for both options
A few things worth knowing:

🟣 The visa is valid for 4 years, your first application is submitted from outside SA, extensions happen right here in the country
🟣 Your spouse receives a 3-year visa
🟣 Minor children can join on an Accompanying Parent Visa (homeschooled) or a Study Visa (if attending school)
🟣 There's currently no age restriction for this visa category
🟣 You can apply for Permanent Residency immediately, no waiting period

💼 What about working?
The regulations allow part-time work in theory, but in practice it's rarely approved upfront.
Our advice?
Enter on your Retirement Visa first, then apply for a waiver to add work conditions once you're in the country.
This is a family-friendly visa, you can submit applications for your spouse and children at the same time as your own. 💛

Thinking about making South Africa your home? Book a consultation and we'll help you figure out the right path forward.
