Since my last property market update just over a month ago, a lot has changed with the financial situation in the country and economy. We have now seen the Reserve Bank last week increase the interest rate by a further 50 basis points. This leaves the prime lending rate at 11.75%.

Rental arrears are every landlord’s nightmare. Unpaid rent is the most common reason for breach of the lease agreement and the motive behind most eviction orders. But evicting the defaulting tenant only solves half the problem. It may enable you to replace them with a paying tenant, but it doesn’t necessarily recover all your lost rent.
