The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week 15-21 May 2023 is 'anxiety'. Anxiety is an emotion that affects us all. Whether you're worried about passing an exam, concerned about money, or trying something new that you've not done before, it's normal to feel some level of anxiety at stressful times in life.

However, anxiety can become a big issue when it starts impairing our functioning and severely affecting our mood. Excessive anxiety can create a level of stress and hopelessness that affects our overall mental health and wellbeing. Some symptoms of anxiety include difficulty sleeping, feeling sick, restlessness and racing thoughts. There may also be behavioural changes, such as avoiding social interaction or situations that trigger stress.

With the right support and healthy coping strategies, anxiety can be made more manageable. Reaching the core of the issue causing anxiety will help to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms that often come along with it. Focusing on anxiety this Mental Health Awareness Week provides us with an opportunity to understand how anxiety affects mental health and provide information on how to cope with and heal from anxiety.

With the help and knowledge of the guest.Black Lawyers Association Student Chapter presents Tshepang Mahlatsi to address these taboo topics.

Write for Rights ✊🏻✊🏽✊✊🏾✊🏿

This writing contest is a great opportunity for students to explore the world of human rights advocacy and develop their powerful writing skills. In collaboration with the Free State Centre of Human Rights, the Black Lawyers Association, The Centre of Teaching and Learning - WriteSite, and Galaletsang Monyaki - Human Rights Ambassador 2023, we invite students to submit essay pieces that will inspire and enlighten audiences on the significance of human rights.

The competition is open to all students who are passionate about making a change in the world and advocates of equal rights to all. Students are encouraged to explore issues surrounding public accountability and the right to social services. The contest will be a unique opportunity for students to contribute to a global movement to promote and protect human rights. The judging panel will evaluate essays based on originality, clarity, relevance and persuasive power. Selected essays will be published on the Free State Centre of Human Rights website and other platforms, and the winner will be recognized and be a awarded a prize.

Through this competition, we hope to create an inspirational space for students to express their opinion and make a positive impact on society. As we continue to progress towards a more equitable world, the power of words and the courage of individuals cannot be overstated.

Dear Esteemed Law Students You Are Cordially Invited!!!!

Worker's Day is observed on May 1st each year in South Africa to acknowledge the significant contributions of workers to the country's economy and society. On this day, all workers including legal practitioners, get the opportunity to reflect on the country's success in promoting worker's rights, as well as the problems that remain.

In celebration of worker’s day we present a webinar aimed to tackle the type of law practiced, the size and location of the business, and the practitioner's level of experience and qualifications are all factors that influence the remuneration of legal practitioners in South Africa.
