If you’re planning to sell a property that still has a bond, there’s one step worth taking early: notify your bank.

Your bank may require advance notice that you intend to cancel the bond.

For many home loans, giving around 90 days’ notice can help avoid or reduce an early-termination charge, depending on the bank and the terms of the loan.

An ANC is signed before the marriage and sets out the matrimonial property system that will apply to you as a couple.

Usufruct sounds complicated. The real-life idea is much simpler.

One person can legally own a property, while another person holds a limited real right to use and benefit from it.

For example, a parent may leave ownership of a home to a child, while giving a surviving spouse a usufruct over the property. Depending on the terms, that may allow the spouse to live in the home or benefit from its use even though they are not the owner.
