Domain Name Protection in the UAE
It was in 2006 that the administration of domain names was transferred to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. Further, it is pertinent to note that there are no proprietary rights in domain names in the United Arab Emirates. Companies in all Emirates that use the “.ae” domain name are required to obtain a domain name license. The licenses issued are particularly for two zones: Unrestricted Zone and the Restricted Zone.
