Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has announced recently a number of significant additions and changes to its ‘Green List’ which will take effect from 29th May 2023. These relate to two of its skilled residence visa categories - namely, the ‘Straight to Residence’ and ‘Work to Residence’ categories. The changes include the addition of 32 new health sector roles to the Green List, and all health roles on the Green List being moved to the 'Straight to Residence' pathway, as well as the addition to the Green List of a number of new occupations including Civil construction supervisors, Gasfitters, Drainlayers, Skilled crane operators, Skilled civil machine operators, Halal slaughterers, Skilled motor mechanics, Skilled telecommunications technicians, All secondary school teachers (in addition to the specialisations already on the Green List) and Primary school teachers.

NEW 2021 RESIDENT VISA ANNOUNCED

The NZ government has confirmed it is setting up a one-off resident visa, which could see approximately 165,000 people applying.
Applicants must have been in New Zealand on September 29 2021, must hold or have applied for (and subsequently be granted) a work visa, and must also meet one of the following criteria:
• have lived in New Zealand for three or more years, or
• earn at or above the median wage ($27 per hour), or
• work in a role on a scarce list.
This sounds very promising but the real test will be how quickly Immigration New Zealand can process these applications.
