Effective from 1 July 2026, the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre ("VIAC") has adopted a new set of Arbitration Rules ("the 2026 Rules"), replacing the Arbitration Rules in force since 1 March 2017 ("the 2017 Rules").

The 2026 Rules refine existing mechanisms and introduce several procedural innovations to improve the efficiency, flexibility and overall administration of arbitral proceedings in Vietnam, including:
โ–ธ Introduction of a Joinder Mechanism
โ–ธ Stronger case screening powers for VIAC
โ–ธ Clearer rules on multiple contracts and consolidation
โ–ธ Expanded tribunal-appointed expert powers
โ–ธ Broadened availability of the expedited procedure
These changes carry significant implications for parties engaging in arbitration in Vietnam and align VIAC more closely with international best practices.

Vietnam is among the worldโ€™s most active crypto markets, with ~17 million users and over $100B in annual trading volume.

Effective from 1 January 2026, the Law on Digital Technology Industry requires crypto platforms to secure local licenses and offer direct VND transactions. The NDAChain national blockchain platform further supports secure transactions, and this shift increases the need for more robust valuation approaches.

As Vietnam moves toward a licensed, onshore digital asset market, we introduce our guide on valuation methodologies for digital assets, examining how VC firms and crypto funds should assess cryptocurrencies, tokens, NFTs, DeFi instruments, and stablecoins under this evolving framework.

Forvis Mazars Vietnam is pleased to announce that Christophe Cougnaud, Partner and French-qualified lawyer, has been appointed French Foreign Trade Advisor (Conseiller du Commerce Extรฉrieur de la France โ€“ CCEF) for Vietnam.

The appointment recognises Christopheโ€™s longstanding contribution to strengthening France-Vietnam business relations and supporting the French business community in Vietnam, notably through his active involvement with the CCIFV. French Foreign Trade Advisors are appointed by the French Prime Minister to support French companies internationally, advise public authorities on foreign trade and contribute to strengthening Franceโ€™s economic and commercial ties abroad.

During his seven years in Vietnam, Christophe has advised French businesses and investors on their activities and expansion in the country, while also playing a key role in establishing and developing Forvis Mazars Legal Vietnam.
