"Thank you for all that you have done. I hope I never need legal help again. If so, you guys will be the first call I make. I am truly grateful, for the guidance and help, that you have provided. I wish you nothing but the best!!"

With Covid-19 closing schools early, when is the final Child Support payment due if the support order ends upon the child's completion of high school?

If the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is handling the case, they typically require a letter from the custodial parent stating whether the child will graduate. DCSS will prorate the final support payment with the last calendared school day.

As an example, even though Pike County schools closed in March, DCSS will still use the last calendared school date of May 22nd to prorate the final support payment.

Make sure you understand your support order. It may not end upon graduation. Also, arrearage might still be owed.

What does essential mean? Below is a link that the Department of Homeland Security provides as a strong recommendation. To be honest, the list is not specific and can create confusion. I will assume our Governor will clarify the term "essential" in the Shelter-In-Place Executive Order that he said would be signed today.

If you are in a local municipality that already has taken police-state action, you should be able to find their definitions of "essential" in their orders imposing shelter-in-place, stay-at-home, curfews, etc.

I expect law enforcement to be confused as to what actually is deemed "essential" and "non-essential" services and activities. I expect tickets to be written that should not be written. I, also, expect those court dates to be set out to mid and late summer. You will have time to fight those tickets.

I am sure this post will need to be updated if and when there is an Executive Order from Governor Kemp. Apparently, today.

If you are someone who is calling law firms asking questions and seeking answers, you are doing the right thing.
