I want to thank every mentor, colleague, and client who has brought our practice to the point of having its permanent home in Worcester, at 65 Elm Street, beginning 03/16/2026. I have enjoyed every moment of practicing immigration law these past ten years; learning from thousands of client stories; advocating in numerous venues; and most of all, working as a team every day with a unity of purpose on behalf of immigrant kids, refugees, asylum-seekers, survivors of crimes, survivors of labor and s*x trafficking, and families seeking unity. Our work has brought me meaning I never could have dreamed of when I was still a student attorney in Boston University School of Law's Immigrants' Rights and Human Trafficking Program.

As attorneys Elizabeth Ahmadi, Byron Morataya and I prepare to represent clients from our new location, I especially want to thank our Office Manager, Sonayda Melendez, who was there in those first days of my immigration practice and who will lead our move and expansion.

“I hope this will be our home for a long time, and will communicate to the immigrant community that we're here to stay,” Mooradian said.

There is still time to support Worcester RISE for Health after last night’s Rising Together celebration. It is an honor to serve as chair of this organization which provides primary care, behavioral healthcare, and maternal care for refugees and recent arrivals. RISE’s interventions change the trajectories of families and our entire community. I hope you might join me in supporting this organization- RISE’s charity auction remains open thru the weekend:

Thank you to the Massachusetts Bar Association, Worcester County Bar Association, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the honor of this award and the chance to speak about immigrants' rights and the profound contributions of recent arrivals to Worcester and the surrounding areas. As I was able to share, immigrants' rights work breathes new life into our founding principles in Massachusetts and in our country-- principles of equity, fundamental fairness, due process, and liberty outlined in our U.S. and Massachusetts Constitutions. These founding principles are what allow all of us to think, pray, speak, work, study, assemble, and live as we wish.

In the coming weeks, I will be providing more resources via social media in light of the recent executive orders of the new presidential administration. I want to assure our current clients and the immigrant communities of Worcester that we have been reviewing our caseload and monitoring policy changes since the time of the election. We are prepared for any needed strategic changes, however, our practice during any administration is to take conservative, practical approaches to immigration relief that minimize risk and anticipate political changes.

While the new Adminsitration is attempting to make changes and instill fear in immigrant communities, I want to be clear: 1) our office denounces any policies that are designed to hurt or prejudice immigrant communities; 2) many of the policies and proposed legal changes are facially unconstitional and have been or will be stopped by the courts; 3) asylum, special immigrant juvenile status, and other humanitarian benefits that we pursue on behalf of clients will remain viable options for many throughout the next four years, and there is no outright ban on immigration benefits.

It is critical that those most affected obtain reliable information. I recommend consultation with only licensed immigration attorneys or BIA accredited representatives. Please be wary of unlicensed individuals who may offer predatory services during this time of change.

Finally, I have been contacted by a large number of institutions, employers, and non-profit organizations seeking guidance for their employees and constituents. While individual clients should contact us via email to [email protected], via AlexMooradian.com, or by phone to 774-548-0710, institutions seeking partial-day clinics or community presentations may make those requests at the following link: https://calendly.com/alex-alexmooradian

I and our team look forward to continuing our work in Worcester and the surrounding towns throughout the next four years.

On Saturday morning I had the pleasure of meeting with Mayor Joe Petty and Worcester RISE For Health Executive Director Dr. Olga Valdman to tour the space we are building out to provide primary care and behavioral healthcare to refugees and recent migrant arrivals. We then went downstairs and along with community volunteers completed 184 applications for TPS for recent Haitian arrivals. Thank you to the many volunteers, community leaders and stakeholders who participated in this massive effort to provide safety and ability to work to so many recent arrivals.

In addition to my work in my immigration law practice, I have been chairing Worcester RISE for Health for the past year. Our nonprofit organization provides behavioral and primary care to refugees and recent arrivals, many of whom have faced medical harm and neglect in their countries of origin on account of their race, religion, gender, and more.

As we prepare to open our 7,000 sq. foot facility in downtown Worcester this fall, monthly contributions will help us plan for hiring and increase our capacity as we grow our patient list. Would you be able to serve as a monthly contributor?

Thank you for your support.

I am wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season and a prosperous new year! Our office will be open on a modified schedule until resuming normal operations on January 2, 2024.

I want to thank my team (Sonayda, Daritxa and Ali) and the many collaborators, stakeholders, community-based organizations, fellow attorneys, and clients, past and present, who made 2023 such an outstanding year.

Our office had the pleasure of working with over 40 recent arrivals from Afghanistan in their affirmative asylum matters; dozens of young adults and children from Haiti in their deportation defense matters; and numerous kids from Central America and elsewhere who have been abandoned, abused, and neglected by their parent(s). The aforementioned clients are just recent arrivals relying on tenuous shelter housing in Worcester County. Far greater are the numbers of clients arriving this year to seek protection from gender-based violence and FGM in Africa and Central America; political persecution in places like Uganda, Mauritania, and the DRC; and those seeking family unity here in the United States after protracted separation from their loved ones. It is an honor to be entrusted with these important matters.

2023 has been a truly unprecedented year in our field. Recent needs have driven us to hold monthly clinics at the Worcester Public Library in partnership with colleagues from Central West Justice Center, Lilly Legal, LLC, Celedon Law, and Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice-SCIJ; to host large scale clinics for recent Haitian arrivals, including our clinics at the Northborough Public Library, and in partnership with African Community Education (ACE); to expand collaboration with the Worcester Asylum Clinic of UMass Medical; to partner with providers at Family Health Center of Worcester; and to collaborate with City of Worcester, Massachusetts leaders (and task forces led by Maydee Morales and Jillian Phillips) and hold public forums alongside ONE Worcester and Worcester Addresses Childhood Trauma.

I was honored this year to be named the Chair of the founding Board of Worcester RISE for Health, a nonprofit aiming to become a gold standard for migrant and refugee healthcare by addressing the many social determinants of health that prejudice migrant populations. RISE will broaden the horizon of what primary care and mental healthcare can and should be to best serve recent arrivals with the leadership of our founding Director, Olga Valdman.

As I look forward to 2024, I am thrilled that Attorney Elizabeth Ahmadi will be joining our office. Attorney Ahmadi brings over 10 years of humanitarian immigration law experience to our practice and has worked with many, many immigrant juveniles in their removal defense matters, UAC asylum matters, and in obtaining related humanitarian benefits, in addition to having significant expertise in representing survivors of crime and asylum-seekers.

Thank you to all have made this year great, and I look forward to seeing you in 2024!
