I want to share something that I care deeply about.
Elder abuse and neglect happen far more often than people realize—and too often, they go unnoticed. Many seniors don’t speak up. Some are afraid. Some don’t want to burden their families. Others simply can’t communicate what’s happening to them.
As a personal injury attorney, I’ve seen how devastating these situations can be—not just physically, but emotionally and financially for families. And I’ve also seen how important it is to have someone paying attention, asking questions, and advocating when something doesn’t feel right.
Whether your loved one is living at home, in assisted living, or in a nursing facility, presence matters. Regular visits, consistent check-ins, and simply being involved can make a meaningful difference—and can help prevent neglect from going unnoticed.
Some signs of elder abuse or neglect may include:
Physical signs:
• Unexplained bruises, cuts, burns, or wounds
• Broken bones or repeated injuries
• Sudden or unexplained weight loss
• Injuries that don’t match the explanation
• Use of restraints without clear medical reason
Emotional or behavioral signs:
• Fearfulness, agitation, or reluctance to speak
• Withdrawal, depression, or sudden changes in behavior
• Confusion or disorientation beyond normal patterns
• Isolation from family or others
• Being spoken to in a demeaning or dismissive way
Our elders deserve dignity, safety, and respect—at every stage of life.
If you ever notice something that doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts. Ask questions. Get involved. And if necessary, seek guidance from someone who can help you understand your options and protect your loved one.
If this message encourages even one person to check in a little more closely on someone they love, it’s worth sharing.
