Hi, All:

Good news for NJ persons with disabilities who work for wages. NJ has expanded eligibility for Medicaid under the NJ Workability Medicaid as of April 1, 2023:

1. There are no assets limits (there used to be a $20,000 resource limit).
2. Now available to all people over 16 who have a disability determination (prior to this change, NJ Workability enrollees were taken off at age 65).
3. No more spousal deeming.
4. Available to enrolled members for 12 months after a job loss through no action on their part.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this program, NJ WorkAbility offers people with disabilities who are working, and whose income would otherwise make them ineligible for Medicaid, an option to receive full Medicaid coverage.

Hi, All. My law partner, Gabrielle Bohon, and I will be presenting at the annual conference of the Academy of Special Needs Planners in Boston next week:
1. Gabrielle will speak on Charting the Life Course. As described in the CtLC website: "The Charting the LifeCourse framework was created to help individuals and families of all abilities and all ages develop a vision for a good life, think about what they need to know and do, identify how to find or develop supports, and discover what it takes to live the lives they want to live." It is a very useful tool for persons with disabilities and their families.
2. I will give a presentation on emergency planning for the person with disabilities who comes into money which could cause a loss of needs-based benefits, such as SSI and Medicaid.
FYI, Gabrielle and I are frequent lecturers on matters pertaining to persons with special needs and/or mental illness. We speak at the invitation of not-for-profits, school systems, governmental agencies, parent groups, and other organizations that have an interest in persons with disabilities and/or mental illness. We give these presentations as a public service, without charge. If you are interested in one of our presentations, check out the list of available topics at our website: https://falconlawgroup.com/seminars/

Hi, All: The NJ DDD is seeking input on support coordinator competency. Your input will be very valuable. Here's some information on the survey and where to go to participate:

Support Coordinator Competency Survey

The Division of Developmental Disabilities (Division), in collaboration with The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities at Rutgers RWJMS, has launched the Money Follows Person (MFP) Support Coordinator Competency and Capacity Building Steering Committee (Committee). The Committee’s charge is to make recommendations in the development of a certification program for Support Coordinators.

The Committee is seeking input from the New Jersey disability community to learn about the competency and skill needs of NJ’s Support Coordinators. Stakeholders are encouraged to provide input by completing the below survey. The information obtained will be used to inform the Committee’s recommendations.

The online survey can be found at: https://rutgers.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ezguzZYGa6kgFlc

The survey will be open until Wednesday, April 12, 2023, so please participate on or before that date.

The Division and Committee appreciate the time you take to complete this important survey.

If you need assistance to complete, please contact [email protected] – 732-235-9301.

Summer Camp for Children with I/DD. Summer camp is back for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Here's the information:

Immediately below is updated information on the Summer Camp Services for children with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities.

For 2022 (this may change in the future, but for this year) – the CSOC Summer Camp Services application season will run from March 1, 2022 to June 30, 2022. Everything will go live on or around March 1 at www.performcarenj.org/SummerCamp. Remember, youth must be deemed eligible for CSOC developmental disability (DD) services to qualify for Summer Camp Services.

To help families with children and youth, up to age 21 with developmental/intellectual disabilities in the process of securing a Summer Camp program, here is some preliminary information, provided by a contact at PerformCare.

The application for Summer Camp Services (for DD/ID children and youth) for 2022 will be a 4-month period, between March 1 and June. 30.

• This page, https://www.performcarenj.org/families/disability/summer-camp.aspx has a FAQ and Qualified Camp Providers list (for 2021) and is a good place to start to look at camps for 2022. See the second bullet point, “Qualified Children’s System of Care (CSOC) Camp Providers” and select your county (or ALL Camps, for a complete list of all 40 camps open in 2021). Note also, the FAQ document has useful information (even though it is for 2021).
• Start looking in January for the camps your child may want to attend.
• A prerequisite for Summer Camp is that the youth is deemed eligible for CSOC developmental disability (DD) services. If the family hasn’t already applied for eligibility, that’s the step they need to take. That is the part of the process that takes the longest. I/DD eligibility is here: https://www.performcarenj.org/families/disability/determination-eligibility.aspx
• Summer Camp Applications will be live on the PerformCare site by Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

Find information about applying for Summer Camp reiumbursement for children and youth involved in NJ Children's System of Care.
