BECAUSE WORD CHOICE MATTERS

"REFOULMENT" is what is happening to some immigrants, not mere "removal" or "deportation".

For some whose countries of origin refuse to accept repatriation or deportees, the administration's policy on third country removal is more than inhumane. It is sadistic.

The horrors are unimagineable for people with no linguistic or cultural connection to a geographic location, who are more likely than not to be confined indefinitely. For them there is no consolation.

At least we who are aware of these deeply troubling realities know that "the same way this administration judge's others, they will be judged, because by the same measure they use, it will be measured to them", not just today but for all eternity. ( Matthew 7:2)

As the Trump administration sends migrants to faraway, unfamiliar countries where they are again detained, some immigration advocates argue that the word “deportation” is no longer sufficient.

SPONSORSHIP OF IMMIGRANTS

MONEY and IMMIGRANTS

Today US Immigration & Citizenship Services ( USCIS) released a new edition of FORM i-864 which is the Financial Sponsor declaration.

No previous editions will be accepted.

What does that mean?

Any prior editions will result in a rejection of the entire submission.

What's new?

Sponsors will have to sign a release granting the US government permission to access their consumer credit reports with EXPERIAN, EQUIFAX and TRANSUNION.

There is an online tool a sponsor can use to determine whether their income qualifies, but the tool is not a decision or exact calculation the reviewing officer will use.

What has not changed?

Sponsor obligations end when the immgrant has earned 40 quarters to qualify for Social Security Disability and Retirement benefits, becomes a US citizen, returns to their country permanently, or dies.

Divorce does NOT terminate sponsor obligations!

"Lock them up" was the chant by many in election years past, and as that objective fell flat, it does not stop this relentless administration from seeking whom to detain because what harm is there in locking people up indefinitely?

Are immigrants entitled to liberty?

Settled law and repeated court rulings reinforce that you cannot institutionlize people indefinitely even if they are here "pending status" or without status, but the administration is deaf it seems and another federal appeals court says so.

In his relentless pursuit to stifle travel and root out alleged "fraud and abuse," though a lack of the basic understanding of the legal process and standards set to determine the legitimate claims of the earnest people drives the motives, this administration seeks to revoke visas and persecute the already persecuted.

Not just do unto others that which you would have done unto you, but if the focus is to project what you have done and accuse others of what you do, a visa penalty of $100k called a "public charge bond" or a $103k visa fee for the H-1B or revocation of 200k tourist visas is ordinary play in the gamesmanship and hyperfocus of the current administration.

The State Department is expected to announce in the coming weeks the revocation of so-called B1 and B2 visas issued between 2016 and 2026 whose holders have sought asylum or are now seeking asylum, according to State Department documents.

Not just cruel but no basis in law

If rules were made just based on the fickle whimsy of the ill-advised and uninformed, where would we be?

Immigrant families are no more likely than "American" families to apply for and receive public assistance.

What is the "public charge" rule that is applied to Immigrants applying for admission to the US anyway and why require a financial sponsor IF you are going to arbitrarirly deny visas based on your opinion as to whether applicant's are likely to access the public benefits system?

A federal judge in New York vacated a Trump administration policy that had suspended the processing of visas from 75 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Russia and Somalia, whose nationals the Trump administration has deemed likely to require public assistance while living in the United States.
