I went to my doctor to get a minor procedure done. I knew my health insurance covered this procedure. To my surprise, my health insurance billed me $362. I called my health insurance, and I told the agent that I was covered. She told me I was not. So I asked for the contact information for their legal department so that I can write a letter. She told me that she has worked as a health insurance agent for years and that I'd be wasting my time. She said a letter never works. I got the contact information anyway. Now, if I had written the letter, then I would be wasting my time just like everybody else. I sent my attorney my health insurance policy to review, and he said that because I was in the middle of switching my health insurance that there was a tricky loop that I had to navigate for me to get coverage. Luckily my attorney knew what to do. My attorney wrote a letter to my health insurance legal department. A week and a half later, I get two letters in the mail. The first letter was a hand-written apology. The 2nd was a reduced bill. My new bill was $6.
