Wayne Lambert, an established builder on Bald Head Island, has been found liable to Reiss & Nutt clients Charles Tapp and Katrena Henderson. A Brunswick County Superior Court Judge entered judgment against Lambert in the amount of $450,571.00 pursuant to an arbitration award entered in favor of Henderson and Tapp.

The case started when Lambert filed a lawsuit against Tapp and Henderson, alleging they owed $172,491.44 in unpaid invoices for the home he constructed for them on Bald Head Island. Attorney Kyle Nutt represented Tapp and Henderson. Soon after the lawsuit was filed, Nutt enlisted the services of a forensic engineer to inspect the home and identify defects in the construction, which resulted in counterclaims filed against Lambert for shoddy work.

During a 2-day arbitration, multiple building experts testified to the defects in Lambert's work and the costs to remedy the same. Evidence was also introduced which showed Lambert's accounting of payments and expenses was incorrect. Lambert and his attorney argued that his invoices had not been paid and that the defects were not as significant as the other witnesses opined. Lambert's claims were denied in their entirety.

A Brunswick County jury hit two hair salon owners with $191,000 in compensatory damages and $700,000 in punitive damages on Wednesday.

The verdict came after a trial that began April 14 in the lawsuit filed by Sherilyn Higgins, a partner in Oak & Ivy, LLC, a Calabash salon that more recently became Evolution Hair Design.

This is a great victory for Sherilyn, a wonderful client and someone who could not be more deserving of justice and vindication.

The jury found that Bruce and Rhonda Anders, who are married and controlled the company, had conspired to remove Sherilyn as an owner after she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, which required treatment while she also was carrying her first child. The jury found the Anders diverted profits to themselves, withheld profits from Sherilyn, and defamed her to sever her client relationships.

Reiss & Nutt Associate Mackenzie Lintz led the trial with W. Cory Reiss assisting.
