We are happy to announce our new name: Oberman & Yazno-Bartle LLC

07/13/2021

We are thrilled to announce that we won a groundbreaking case in federal court before Judge Savage. We argued and won at a due process hearing that the MCIU should cover preschool tuition for a typical preschool and provide transportation to that preschool if that child needs to attend a typical preschool in order to receive a free, appropriate, public education. In this particular case, the preschool child had autism spectrum disorder and needed to socialize with neurotypical peers. Upon winning at the due process hearing, the MCIU appealed to federal court and we won again. Leona Goldshaw was counsel for the parents at the hearing and Caryl Andrea Oberman and Leona Z. Goldshaw we co-counsel for the federal appeal.

If you have a preschool child with disabilities, we are happy to provide more information.

Great news for Pennsylvania Parents! Governor Wolf has signed Act 66, which allows all parents to choose to retain their kids in their 2020-21 school year grades for the 2021-22 school year, whether they are disabled or not, if the parents believe their kids fell too far behind during the past school year. This is entirely a matter of parent choice and does not require agreement by the school district or intermediate unit.

If you have a child with a disability who turned 21 in the 2020-21 school year and would be “aging out”, you can request an additional year, pushing the “age out” date to the end of the 2021-22 school year. Your request must be granted.

You only have a short window to act, and you must do it now.

You must submit the Act 66 form by JULY 15 to your school district! Pay close attention to the instructions on who needs to sign the form.

We have attached the form to this email or you can find it here:
