Meet Susan DeMello with RW Towne Mortgage ❤️
Susan's story is rooted in resilience, service, and an appreciation for life's everyday blessings. Born in California, she spent much of her childhood living abroad in Hong Kong and the Philippines before returning to the U.S. for junior high school. Along the way, she learned both Chinese and Tagalog and developed a global perspective that continues to shape who she is today.
Family is at the center of Susan's life. She treasures time spent with her children and four grandchildren and enjoys cooking, golfing, crafting in her craft room, and gathering with friends and loved ones.
Many people are surprised to learn that Susan spent a decade in digital advertising, working with Fortune 500 companies and even helping launch ESPN's streaming college sports network. After ten years in the advertising space, she brought that experience back to the mortgage industry, where she continues to build relationships and serve others.
Susan's passion for connection and leadership extends beyond her career. She currently serves as President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington and is a co-founder of the Professional Mortgage Women's Social Collective, two organizations that are especially close to her heart. Through both, she is dedicated to building meaningful relationships, supporting fellow professionals, and helping shape the future of the industry during a time of transformation.
One of the most defining chapters of Susan's life came at age 40, when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Facing a serious prognosis while raising two young children, she chose to focus on faith, hope, and perseverance. With the support of family and friends, the care of an incredible medical team at Johns Hopkins, and an unwavering determination to keep moving forward, she overcame the battle and gained a renewed perspective on life.
That experience reinforced a belief she carries with her every day: that every day is a gift. It taught her to embrace the present, cherish the people she loves, and find joy in life's simplest moments.
Susan is also passionate about animal welfare and advocacy. Having volunteered with shelters and rescue organizations over the years, she remains committed to supporting causes that promote animal care, rescue, and adoption for animals in need.
Of all her accomplishments, Susan is most proud of her family. Watching her son and daughter grow into exceptional adults, and seeing the values of love, integrity, compassion, and commitment reflected in the way they are raising their own families, has been one of the greatest rewards of her life. Seeing that legacy continue through her four grandchildren is both humbling and deeply meaningful.
