In recent years, financial advisors have sold clients “Alternative Investments” with the promise of monthly income distributions, above-market returns, and perceived safety from the volatility of traditional stocks and bonds. Often these products differ drastically from this sales pitch and result in devastating losses. If that has happened to you, please call.

When interest rates were low until recently, some financial advisors placed their clients’ savings in investments that promised higher yields (interest rates) including junk bonds. Unfortunately, these so called high-yield products are highly vulnerable to losses when interest rates go up, as they have. If this has happened to you, it’s worth proving deeper to see if your advisor sold you unsuitable and risky investments under the guise of “high dividend paying” products that are not built for the long run.

A new AARP study reports that older Americans lose a devastating $28.3 billion annually from financial exploitation. That’s horrific. If you or someone you know is the victim of financial abuse by an investment advisor, I’d be honored to help. Please call me.

Victims of deceptive sales practices by unscrupulous financial advisers recently won two major court victories, as I explain in my recent guest column in the Scranton Times-Tribune.

Here is the link:

Victims of deceptive sales practices by unscrupulous financial advisers won two major court victories recently, one in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the second in a federal appellate court. Both

This is a popular time of the year for financial advisors to recommend rollover investments, transferring your retirement savings from one investment product to another. If that happens to you -- and your financial advisor recommends a rollover -- please insist that your advisor give you a written detailed explanation as to why such a recommended rollover is in your best interest. You deserve more than a generic or sweeping statement that the new investment product is somehow "better" and has great "bells and whistles." You are entitled to much more information: what are the fees associated with the rollover? how does the new product meet my specific needs, circumstances, risk tolerance and investor profile? what's wrong with my current investment? what are the advantages of the new investment? All too often, unexplained rollover investments favor the financial advisor at the expense of the customer. If this has happened in your account, please contact us and we will investigate for potential wrongdoing.

The website www.brokercheck.finra.org is a fantastic and free resource to review the background of your financial advisor. In addition to employment history and qualifications, the site includes a disclosure section that includes information about prior customer disputes and disciplinary events that resulted in fines or compensation to customers who alleged wrongdoing in their account.

Sadly, nearly one in five Americans over the age of 65 falls victim to elder financial abuse ever year, yet recent financial industry reports reveal that many firms lack internal compliance systems to monitor the retirement accounts of senior citizens to spot such financial exploitation and abuse. If you or your loved ones see red flags in your account, including misinformation about the risks and costs of specific investment products, I would be privileged to review this activity and discuss potential avenues to remedy the harm.

"Alex, I just wanted to to say that we are now approaching two years since our settlement. Thanks to all the effort you put in to getting us the best settlement possible. In just two years, we are back on track for our future plans and retirement. We were numb, confused and embarrassed two years ago and feel very fortunate that your name was passed to us to help with the tangled mess of litigation. We will never forget how you helped us in a very trying time." - Mr. and Mrs. V.
