Trump’s tone is decidedly more menacing and vengeful this time around, as he seeks to reclaim the White House after his loss in 2020. This alone is a cause for concern, foreshadowing what the Trump presidency redux could look like. While his speeches are quite frequently, rambling and incoherent, running off on tangents that would grab headlines for their craziness, they are insights to what it’s like inside his head: a smorgasbord of lies, fiction, personal and professional vendettas, frequent comparisons to other famous people, a handful of simple policy ideas, a lot of non sequiturs that veer into unintelligible stories, plus half-cocked and baseless ideas like when he promoted injecting bleach during the pandemic. Trump, like Biden, has confused names of world leaders. He has also stumbled and slurred his words. Trump has described using an “iron dome” missile defense system as “ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. They’ve only got 17 seconds to figure this whole thing out. Boom. OK. Missile launch. Whoosh. Boom.” His tirades can mostly be described as complete nonsense for a gullible base of die-hard fans.

You not only see the truly bizarre nature of his speeches when viewing them in full, but you see the sheer breadth of his menace and animus toward those who disagree with him. You also see his abject contempt towards non-White migrants. He has repeatedly called migrants “animals,” and his comments have grown more dehumanizing. Trump has also turned more authoritarian in his language, saying he would be a “dictator on day one” but then later said it would only be for a day. He has called his political enemies “vermin,” and falsely claimed there wouldn’t be another election if he doesn’t win this one. In a speech in March 2024 in Ohio, he claimed there would be a “bloodbath” if he lost this November. This threat of violence if Trump loses the election should not only remind ordinary American voters of how he incited the January 6th insurrection, it clearly demonstrates the danger Trump poses to American democracy.

We can not dismiss Trump’s bigotry, authoritarianism, and craziness as just background noise. His first term in office and ongoing rhetoric clearly show us what kind of president he could become if he won a second term. We should believe him, and a majority of American voters should turn out in even greater numbers in November 2024 to repudiate and defeat him.

Today is . On this day in history, June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag. However, it was President Woodrow Wilson who issued a presidential proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on June 14. Congressional legislation designating that date as the national Flag Day was signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1949. The legislation also called upon the president to issue a Flag Day proclamation every year. Americans have commemorated the adoption of the Stars and Stripes in many ways–displaying the flag in the front of their homes, parades, and other patriotic observances. The current version of the flag with 50 stars dates to July 4, 1960, after Hawaii became the fiftieth state on August 21, 1959.

An announcement is expected next Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at a planned White House event marking the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shielded more than 800,000 children brought to the U.S. as children from deportation. President Joe Biden is expected to announce a new executive action as early as next week that would shield the undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens from deportation, and allow them to work legally in the country. Some lawmakers and immigration advocates have estimated it could affect up to 1.1 million spouses of U.S. Citizens who CAN VOTE so the proposal seems clearly calculated to mobilize these .

The executive action is expected to protect undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens from deportation and allow them to work legally in the country. An announcement could come as early as next week.

NOTA: ¡Esta Acción Ejecutiva aún no existe!

We thank Steve Lerner for introducing the world to Garden City, Kansas, The Ellis Island of the Plains. STRANGERS IN TOWN is a beautiful and inspiring story of how global migration unexpectedly transformed and enriched Garden City, Kansas. While it brought great challenges to the community initially, including demands for housing, social services, education, and infrastructure, the town is proud of it's remarkable diversity, and its residents are a testament to how we can challenge the bigotry and mean-spirited xenophobia of contemporary American politics.
