CATHOLIC CHARITIES WARNS COMMUNITIES OF IMMIGRATION SCAM IN SWKS
Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas is alerting residents to an increase in scams targeting individuals seeking immigration legal services.
Scammers are posing as representatives of Catholic Charities and contacting individuals through text messages, WhatsApp, unofficial email addresses, and social media. They falsely offer immigration assistance and request personal information such as Social Security numbers, addresses, and documents, or demand payment through digital applications like Zelle. In some cases, scammers use the Catholic Charities name or logo to appear legitimate. These messages are fraudulent.
Catholic Charities does not solicit individuals through WhatsApp, social media, or text messages. Communication is conducted through official phone and email channels only. The agency will never request payment through messaging apps or pressure individuals to act quickly.
Community members are urged to take the following precautions:
• Do not respond to unsolicited messages offering immigration help
• Do not share personal or financial information
• Do not send money through digital payment apps
• Save suspicious messages and report them
