This last week's featured presenter was our very own Jake Kuhlman from ICT Insurance Group . He is our go to guy for all things Health Insurance. Currently we are in the Open Enrollment Period for persons who are on Medicare or buy their own insurance through Healthcare.gov. This last week's featured presenter was Tod Nelson State Farm Agent who holds the Financial Planning seat in our chapter. While many people think of State Farm for insurance, you would be extremely surprised to sit down with Tod & have a conversation about your retirement plans. He is extremely knowledgeable about investments & knows that it is never too early to start a savings plan. He has been a witness to the difference between planning, versus those who didn't plan and struggle later in life. He shared that currently the average person on social security only receives $1651/mo to live on. Would that cover all of your expenses for food, housing, doctors, prescriptions, transportation, etc? It is a very scary thought for most of us. Currently approximately 55% of US Workers plan to work well into their retirement years just to make those ends meet. This last weeks featured presenter was Katie Morrison of the Farmers Insurance - Katherine Wulf-Morrison Group. She is our go to gal for all things personal insurance. You could say that she has been in the industry her entire life. She took over the business that was started by her dad, Craig Wulf. Along with the other agents in her office, there are 65 years of combined experience to get you the coverages you need, to protect the life you live. Since the pandemic, many of us have spent more time and money focusing on enjoying time with our families. Often that has resulted in families investing in things like travel trailers, four wheelers, atv's, boats, etc. Do you have those extras properly insured? She talked to us about the fact that a trailer is not covered by your truck's insurance unless it is actually hitched to the vehicle. This week's featured presenter was Ryan Shirley of Shirley's Plumbing & Drain Cleaning llc . He is probably the most entertaining of our entire crew with his visual aids and puns that are intended. This time it included a propane torch and a lesson on how to cut pipes. We talked about how plumbers are on the front lines of protecting the health of our nation. Stop and think about it... What would you do if you couldn't flush the toilet, shower in clean water, or wash your laundry? Ewww! We also talked about the fact that so many illnesses are spread through contaminated water. Plumbers also bring you the natural gas or propane lines that so many of us use to heat our homes. That safety is exceptionally important. Regardless of whether your two year old flushed a hot wheels car down the drain, your garbage disposal has eaten it's last metal fork, or the hot water has stopped working in your home, Ryan is definitely the guy you need to call to get it fixed. This last week we heard from Jake Kuhlman of ICT Insurance Group . They specialize in all things Health Insurance, including the Affordable Care Act & Medicare. Anyone who has been in the market to buy their own private insurance can understand that those two systems can be a headache waiting to happen. Their company is paid by the insurance companies to help educate you on how to navigate the system, find the best deal possible to fit your needs, and provide choices you might not realize you had. All of this is at no cost to the consumer. He took his time to educate us on HSAs (Health Savings Accounts). These are programs set up to help consumers pay for their medical expenses throughout the year. They are offered to people who have a high deductible/catastrophic care plan that wouldn't cover their routine medical, dental, or vision needs. The money contributed to your HSA account is untaxed, earns interest, and is eligible for tax free withdrawals. Money in the account can roll over annually so that it continues to grow. An individual can contribute up to $3650/year or a family can contribute $7300/year. Those funds can be used for doctor visits, prescription medicine, bandages, & even some over the counter medications. You simply pay with that card and keep your receipts to show what the expenses were that you incurred. We all love tax free money & this is an excellent way to achieve it. This last week's featured presenter was Chad Hershberger from Morrison Roofing & Construction . With the recent rash of storms that have moved through the Wichita Metro Area, he educated us on things every homeowner should know, not all roofs are the same & material matters. Often times the lowest bid on a roofing job, can end up being the most expensive repair in the long run. Some contractors cut corners or use subpar materials to keep their bids low. In the long run, the homeowner loses on those. The team at Morrison is knowledgeable, experienced, and going to always put their customers first. They would love to just sell roofs to everyone who thinks they got hail, but that isn't what is always best for the customer.
