Attorney John Perticone of the personal injury team at Levene Gouldin & Thompson secured a $350,000 settlement for his client who was injured when he slipped and fell on an icy surface. He suffered an ankle fracture that required surgery. Two insurance companies agreed to contribute to the settlement.

Levene Gouldin & Thompson’s personal injury team serves the Binghamton, Whitney Point and Ithaca, New York areas, as well as Montrose, Pennsylvania and surrounding areas.

Attorney Cindy Manchester of the personal injury team secured a settlement for her client, a woman in her 50’s, who was injured when she fell from steps maintained by the State of New York. The client sustained a broken ankle and required surgery. While the Court of Claims did find the client to be 60% at fault for the accident following a trial on the liability issues, the damages portion of the case resulted in a $120,000 settlement for the client.

LGT Partner, Karen McMullen, Advocates for Visitation with Loved Ones in Nursing Homes

As a member of a New York State Bar Association task force, LGT partner, Karen McMullen, is advocating for legislative solutions for safe visitation to residents of nursing homes and adult care facilities during the pandemic. Currently, visitation is limited to virtual connections or short visits with mandated masking and social distancing in designated areas – which is particularly difficult for families with loved ones suffering from dementia.

Karen, along with her colleague, Jeffrey Neuman, a fellow attorney, drafted a memorandum of support for NYS Senate Bill S614B. This bill permits “personal caregiving visitors” and “compassionate caregiving visitors” to visit loved ones, and would allow them to have physical contact with the resident to provide care, and to visit the resident in the resident’s room for extended periods of time. The bill was signed on March 29, 2021, and should become effective in mid-June, after the NYS Department of Health issues regulations that specify the exact parameters of the visitation permitted under the new law.
