Nearly 1,800 survivors could lose their day in court not because their claims lack merit, but because trauma made it impossible to remember exact dates. The New York State Senate just voted 57-3 to change that.

Hillary Nappi, Partner at AWK Survivor Advocate Attorneys, was featured in Law.com about the Senate's passage of S9848, which would ease pleading requirements for survivors bringing claims under the Child Victims Act and Adult Survivors Act. The bill now heads to the Assembly.

"Asking a survivor to recall the exact date and time of their abuse isn't a legal standard; it's a barrier designed to keep them out of court," Hillary said.
We stand with survivors and with the lawmakers fighting to ensure the legal system works for them, not against them.

This past Sunday, the AWK Survivor Advocate Attorneys team laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement for a great cause.

We were proud to sponsor a food truck and run in the Blythedale Children's Hospital 5K, the spring fundraiser of the Blythedale Advisory Council, bringing together the community to help children manage significant health conditions and support their families through it all.

At AWK SAA, advocacy doesn't stop in the courtroom. We're grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside families who need it most, and to do it alongside such an incredible team.

Thank you to everyone who organized, ran, volunteered, and showed up. Here's to making a difference, one step at a time.

AWK SAA Partner Hillary Nappi will take the stage at the American Association for Justice's Sexual Assault Litigation College, May 28–30, 2026, in Washington, D.C.

Hillary will lead a session on one of the most technically demanding and deeply sensitive fronts in s*xual assault litigation: electronic image abuse. Her presentation, part of a broader e-discovery session titled "Sword and Shield," will address how attorneys can navigate a client's electronic data in s*x abuse cases—using it as both a tool for accountability and a shield for survivors who deserve to have their privacy and dignity protected throughout the legal process.

AWK attorneys remain committed to staying at the forefront of the evolving challenges in s*xual assault litigation—because survivors deserve attorneys who are leading the charge, not just keeping pace with it.

Every year on the last Wednesday of April, people around the world wear denim in solidarity with survivors of s*xual assault.

Denim Day began in response to a court ruling in Italy that overturned a s*xual assault conviction on the grounds that the victim's jeans were too tight to remove without her cooperation, and the idea that clothing can imply consent. That harmful logic still shows up today in courtrooms, conversations, and in the questions survivors are asked when they come forward.

Today at AWK Survivor Advocate Attorneys, we are wearing denim, and inviting you to join us in standing against victim-blaming in every form. Solidarity can be as simple as wearing denim, listening without judgment, or challenging a misconception when you hear one.

Awareness is more than a statistic... it’s a call to action. This April, we’re turning those numbers into meaningful support, advocacy, and change for survivors.

The realities behind s*xual violence are urgent, and they remind us why education, empathy, and accountability matter every day.

Attorney Reagan Charleston Thomas participated in the ATIP Policy Roundtable, hosted at the U.S. Senate on April 22, reflecting the firm's deepening commitment to survivor advocacy and its growing partnership with Hope for Justice.

The roundtable brought together leading anti-trafficking organizations, advocates, and policymakers to advance legislation aimed at protecting vulnerable children and survivors of exploitation. Among the key measures discussed were the GRACIE Act, which would require recording of all Child Protective Services interviews to strengthen evidence and reduce re-traumatization of child trafficking victims, as well as proposals to combat digital exploitation, support survivor economic recovery, and hold s*x buyers accountable.

Reagan's participation in this roundtable reflects AWK and its partners' belief that strong, survivor-centered policy is inseparable from the broader fight for justice. We remain committed to standing with survivors of trafficking and exploitation — in the courtroom and beyond.
